ALOHA HARVEST
Cultivating Brand & Mission Awareness for a Food Rescue Non-profit
Visual Identity Design / Brand Activation / Outreach & Digital Marketing / Photography
BACKGROUND
My journey with Aloha Harvest began as a three-month practicum for my Graduate Certificate in Public Administration (Nonprofit Management Track) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. This experience evolved into a full-time role as the nonprofit’s Marketing and Communications Lead.
Below are highlights of the visual identity system, photography, and communication materials I developed during my time with Aloha Harvest in 2022 and 2023.
This design work was completed in conjunction with my role’s everyday duties which included managing social media, marketing campaigns, website updates, strategic planning, fundraising, and operational field support.
From a design perspective, my goal was to enhance brand recognition by incorporating consistent design elements and creating educational material and resources that were visually engaging, approachable, and easy to navigate.
ABOUT ALOHA HARVEST
Established in 1999, Aloha Harvest is an O‘ahu based food rescue non-profit that picks up donated and excess food and redistributes it to other social service agencies and nonprofit partners to feed those in need.
The organization is guided by its mission “to rescue quality food to nourish and strengthen our community” and their vision of “a resilient and sustainable Hawai‘i where hunger and food waste no longer exist.”

From One Logo to a Full Visual Identity System
With only a logo and various designs previously produced by talented volunteers, I set out to create a full visual identity by developing brand colors, typography, and graphics that would work with a variety of copy-heavy and photo-centric layouts.

Flyers for Different Audiences
Working closely with the program coordinators and operations team at Aloha Harvest, I was tasked with creating flyers that staff members and volunteers could hand out to different stakeholders.
From left to right:
• A general flyer useful for outreach and tabling events
• A flyer detailing Aloha Harvest’s volunteer program offering gleaning services with a seasonality fruit chart on the back
• A flyer specific to food donors and their concerns around logistics and liability

Quarterly Impact Reports
Every quarter, Aloha Harvest publishes an impact report featuring key data on its food rescue efforts, partner programs, and organizational updates.
These reports play a crucial role in grant reporting and applications, providing essential materials to support funding efforts. Compiling them is a year-round team effort, requiring diligent tracking of impact data.
In close collaboration with the team, I led project management for these reports—gathering data and images, writing copy, providing photography, and designing a layout system that continues to serve as a template today.
